ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the relationship between responsibility and social adaptation of the left-behind middle school students and to provide evidence for mental health education of left-behind children. Methods 290 left-behind middle school students were selected by cluster-random-sampling.All of them were assessed by the middle school students' social adaptability scale (SAS-SSS),the inventory of parent and peer attachment (IPPA) and the scale of high school students' responsibility. Results The correlation between responsibility, attachment behavior and social adaptation of left-behind middle school students were significant(r=0.39,r=0.56,P<0.01).There were significant differences between gender on the responsibility(male(202.64±26.78) vs female(212.67±23.24)).Regression analysis showed that mother attachment, overall responsibility, general responsibility and special fault responsibility could predict the social adaptation(P<0.05).Responsibility and its factors played a mediating role between attachment and adaptation, taking 52.1%,20.1%,30.8%,9.1%,47.9%,40.7% proportion of the total effect. Conclusion Responsibility is an important factor affecting the social adaptation of left-behind middle school students.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the security characteristics of rural young boarding pupils and its influencing factors. Methods 210 boarding and 265 non-boarding rural young pupils of Huojia in Henan were tested by questionnaires, including of a self-developed questionnaire, security questionnaire and adolescent mental resilience scale. Results ①The scores of the interpersonal security (25.99 ± 5.53),the determine control sense factor (24.63 ±6.17) and the total security(50.62 ± 10.37) in the boarding pupils were statistically lower than non-boarding pupils (27.36 ± 6.38,26.00 ± 6.55,53.36 ± 11.77,P <0.05).②There were statistically significant difference in the scores of the interpersonal security, the determine control sense factor and the total security among the different grades(P<0.05),but there were no statistically sex difference in the scores(P > 0.05).③Group regression analysis showed that,no family factors in the young boarding pupils had influence on the score of the security sense factors and the total (P>0.05),and marital relationship of parents, only child, father' s and mother(')s education background of non-boarding pupils had certain influence on the score of the interpersonal security, the determine control sense factor and the total security (β =-0.43-0.27,P< 0.05).④The group regression analysis showed that, the problem solving and self-efficacy,parents'high expectations in mental toughness respectively had some effect on the interpersonal security of boarding and non-boarding pupils(β =-0.15,β =0.25,P<0.05),and social ability and family care, schools resilience respectively had influence on the determine control sense in boarding and non-boarding pupils (β =-2.91-2.87,P<0.05),and social ability, parents'high expectations respectively had influence on the total security in boarding and non-boarding pupils (β =-0.17,β=0.22,P<0.05).Conclusion The security-sense in boarding young pupils are lower than the non-boarding young pupils, and family factors and mental toughness have different effects on security-sense of two kinds pupils.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study anxiety and depression among the abused children and their association with psychological resilience. Methods Self-rated questionnaires including the screen questionnaire of child abuse(SQCA),the screen for child anxiety related emotional disorder(SCARED),self-rating depression scale for children(DSRSC),Resilience Scale and General information questionnaire were applied to 447 children. Results (1) The score and rating of SCARED and DSRSC in the group of abused children(respectively(20.39 ± 12.79),(11.65 ± 5.44) and 40.26%,27.27%) was higher than that in control group(respectively(14.74 ± 10.91),(10.18 ± 4.75) and 22.43%,12.97%),the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.01).(2) The score of psychological resilience of abused children in group of anxiety and depression (respectively (80.13 ± 12.82),(74.67 ± 10.71)) was lower than that in control group (respectively (93.91 ± 16.08),(93.50 ± 15.00)),the difference was statistically significant(P< 0.01).(3) Emotion control was a significantly negative predictor of anxiety among the abused children.Social assistance, family support and emotion control was a significantly negative predictor of depression among the abused children. Conclusion The abused children have more anxiety and depression problems.psychological resilience is an important predictive variable for anxiety and depression among the abused children.

ABSTRACT

Objective To revise Core Self-Evaluation Scale (CSES) and examine its reliability and validity in employees and undergraduates in China. Methods The adaptation of the scale was gotten by way of translation and back-translation. 400 employees and 272 undergraduates were tested by questionnaires, and their data were used to evaluate reliability and validity of the scale. Results In employees and undergraduates, the Cronbach' s coefficient of the CSES was respectively 0.71,0.81, and the test-retest reliability was respectively 0.81,0.84. The results of confirmatory factor analysis showed that the single factor model was more fit for the revised CSES. The scale had good convergent validity and incremental validity in the samples. Conclusion The CSES has good reliability and validity in employees and undergraduates, which can be used for measuring the core self-evaluation in practical research.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the influence of need for cognitive closure on academic performance, interpersonal relationships and subjective well-being of undergraduates. Methods 250 undergraduates from Xinxiang Medical University and 200 undergraduates from Henan Normal University were tested by questionnaires, including of need for cognitive closure scale, interpersonal relationships subscale of SCL-90 and undergraduates'subjective well-being scale. Results ①The scores in the need for cognitive closure of the better academic-performance undergraduates were significant higher than those of the undergraduates with no better academic-performance ( t =2.21,P < 0.05 ).②Decisiveness of need for cognitive closure was a negative predicator of interpersonal relationships(β =-0.34,P < 0.01 ).③Need for cognitive closure, decisiveness and need for structure factor were significant positive predicators of self-satisfaction,life satisfaction, social behavior, and energy factors in undergraduates'subjective well-being (β =0.13 ~ 0.32,P < 0.01 ).Need for cognitive closure was a significant predicator of negative emotions and positive emotions (β =-0.13,β =0.13,P < 0.01 ).Decisiveness-factor was a negative predicator of negative emotions and interpersonal relationships in undergraduates'subjective well-being,and was a positive predicator of family satisfaction(β =-0.22,β =-0.19,β =0.26,P<0.01 ).Need for structure factor was a significant positive predicator of positive emotions (β =0.13,P < 0.01 ).Conclusion Need for cognitive closure has some influence on undergraduates' academic performance, interpersonal relationships and subjective well-being.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect of psychological abuse in childhood on the personality of undergraduates with depression as well as its possible mechanism, and thus provide scientific evidence for the intervention of depression in undergraduates. Methods Particinants were 733 undergraduates from a university in Henan Province. They were surveyed with Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression scale (CES-D), childhood experience of care and abuse questionnaire (CECA. Q) and Eysenck personality theory (EPQ). Results the correlation between maternal antipathy and introversion-extroversion of personality;psychological abuse in childhood had apparently positive correlation with the depression in undergraduates (r = 0. 257, r = 0. 304, r =0. 243, P< 0. 01) and that of childhood maternal neglect to psychoticism (β = 0.206, P< 0.01) were positive and significant. The standard regression coefficients of paternal neglect to introversion-extroversion (β= -0. 143, P<0. 01)were negative and significant . The scores of childhood paternal antipathy and maternal antipathy explained that childhood paternal antipathy had indirect effect via adulthood neuroticism on the depression in undergraduates, furthermore, the indirect effect demonstrated 59.8% of the total effect. Conclusion This study suggests that the personality of undergraduates with depression is affected directly by psychological abuse in childhood, and adulthood personality may mediate the relation between childhood psychological abuse and adulthood depression.
